“Call national women leader to order”-Women storm party’s FCT secretariat

The All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders in the 23 local government areas of Benue State, on yesterday besieged the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, asking the National Working Committee (NWC) to call the national women leader, Dr Mary Allie Idele, to order.

Led by the Benue State APC woman leader, Hon. Nancy Awuese Torher, the women accused Allie-Idele of violating the decision of the NWC which voided the purported suspension of the state executive-led by Comrade Austin Agada.

Addressing journalists, Torhe said the National Women leader was recognising an imposter as the Benue State woman leader as well as one Benjamin Omakolo as the party’s chairman in the state.

APC NWC, on January 31, set aside the purported suspension

of Agada by the party executives in his Ehaje Ward 1, Owukpa, Ogbadibo local government area of the state and insisted that he “remains a bonafide member, and the chairman of the Benue State chapter, of our party.”

There is another factional leadership of the APC, chaired by Omakolo believed to be loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia while the Agada-led Exco owes allegiance to the secretary to the government of the federation, Sen. George Akume.

The Benue APC woman leader expressed shock that Allie-Idele violated the NWC’s decision by inviting an imposter to an event as the state woman leader, and accorded Omakolo the status of the party’s state chairman.

“Allowing this breach of order to proceed will further deepen the APC’s intra–party crisis in Benue State and could lead to the collapse of the party structure,” she said

Torher called on Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led NWC to urgently intervene and “address the issue by drawing the attention of the National Woman Leader to the excessive anomaly and ensuring she aligns with the party’s decision.

“It is shocking to see that the National Woman Leader has violated this decision by inviting an imposter to an event as Benue State Woman Leader, and recognizing one Benjamin Omakolo as the state chairman.”
